Overview:

Toupret Renovation Skimcoat is a ready mixed interior filler designed for levelling, skimming, and finishing damaged or textured surfaces. It handles high-build applications up to 5mm thick, making it well suited for covering rough surfaces, old textures, stucco, and Artex.

Unlike many fillers, it can be applied directly to unpainted walls - no PVA primer required. It bonds to a wide range of substrates, from gypsum plaster and plasterboard to brick, stone, and old painted surfaces.

Once applied, it sands back smoothly and accepts paint or wallpaper in as little as 12 hours. It also carries UKCA certification for plasterboard jointing, making it a single product for multiple interior tasks.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Ready mixed: No mixing required - open and apply straight from the tub.
  • High-build capacity: Apply up to 5mm thick in a single pass for levelling uneven surfaces.
  • No PVA required: Apply directly to unpainted or previously painted walls without priming.
  • UKCA certified for jointing: Approved for plasterboard taping and jointing applications.
  • Wide substrate compatibility: Adheres to gypsum plaster, plasterboard, cement, concrete, brick, stone, and old textured surfaces.
  • Overcoat-ready in 12-24 hours: Paint or wallpaper can be applied once the filler has fully dried.
  • Easy to sand: Dries to a smooth, workable finish that sands back without excess effort.
  • No spot priming needed: Reduces preparation steps, saving time on site.
  • Excellent adhesion: Achieves a filler-to-substrate bond greater than 0.5 MPa.
  • Low VOC formula: VOC content below 0.02%, achieving an A indoor air quality (IAQ) classification.
  • 12-month guarantee: Product guaranteed from date of purchase when stored correctly (in the existing packaging and stored away from frost and sunlight).

Typical Applications

  • Levelling rough or uneven interior wall surfaces before decoration.
  • Covering old textured finishes such as Artex and stucco.
  • Filling and skimming damaged plaster on interior walls and ceilings.
  • Taping and jointing plasterboard or drywall lining.
  • Finishing over breeze blocks, brick, cement, and concrete surfaces.
  • Skimming over old painted surfaces before repainting or wallpapering.
  • High-build filling in areas with deep imperfections up to 5mm.

How to Use

  • Prepare the surface: Substrates must be hard, cohesive, clean, sound, and dry. Follow current trade practice for surface preparation.

  • Open cracks: Use a scraper to open any cracks and remove dust and loose material before filling cavities.

  • Apply the filler: Using a filling knife, coating blade, or trowel, apply the skimcoat in criss-crossing passes up to 5mm thick. For jointing, apply in the standard manner for plasterboard finishing.

  • Allow to dry: Leave the coat to dry fully before sanding. Apply a second coat as soon as the first is hard and dry to the touch.

  • Sand back: Once dry, sand the surface smooth. Always wear a P2 dust mask when sanding.

  • Overcoat: Apply paint or wallpaper after a minimum of 12-24 hours drying time, depending on coat thickness and ambient conditions. Do not apply below +8°C or above +35°C, or at a relative humidity above 70%.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

It can be applied up to 5mm thick in a single pass, making it appropriate for levelling heavily textured or uneven surfaces.

  • How long before Renovation Skimcoat can be painted over?
The surface can typically be painted 12 to 24 hours after application, depending on the coat thickness, substrate, and ambient conditions.
