Applied with a standard PU foam gun (sold separately), it can cut installation time by up to 30% compared with traditional drywall adhesives. The foam expands only slightly to take up minor surface irregularities, helps reduce cold bridging compared with dot-and-dab methods, and typically allows plastering or fixing to begin in around one hour.
Key Features
Fast-curing adhesive foam that allows earlier plastering and fixing
Fire-retardant grade conforming to B3 fire rating requirements
Minimal expansion to fill small gaps on uneven surfaces without excessive movement

How to Use
Ensure surfaces are sound, clean, dry and free from dust, loose material, oil, grease and release agents.
Shake the can thoroughly, then screw it onto a suitable PU foam gun, following the gun manufacturer’s instructions.
Apply continuous beads of adhesive foam to the board, wall, battens or beams as required, avoiding excessive build-up.
Position the board or panel within the open time, press firmly into place and support for roughly one minute until initial grab is achieved.
Allow around one hour before plastering, skimming or installing wall fixings, and 2–3 hours for full cure under normal conditions.
When changing cans, close the gun valve, remove the empty can, fit the new one immediately and clean the nozzle and gun regularly with a suitable PU foam gun cleaner.
For longer breaks, flush the gun thoroughly with cleaner to prevent blockages.
Cromar Alpha Chem Boardfix Plasterboard and Construction Adhesive 750ml – Key FAQs
Can I plaster over boards fixed with this adhesive foam?
Plasterboard bonded with this product can usually be skimmed with plaster or drylining compounds in about one hour, provided the boards are properly supported and site conditions are suitable.
How many plasterboards will one can typically fix?
A 750ml can will generally cover around 5–10 m² or fix approximately five standard boards, depending on bead size, substrate and site conditions.
What types of surfaces can this adhesive be used on?
It adheres to most common substrates, including masonry, concrete, plaster, timber, metal, insulation boards, polystyrene, polyurethane, bitumen and asphalt, making it very versatile on site.
Does this foam expand like standard expanding foam?
No, it is formulated for low expansion. It expands just enough to take up minor unevenness without causing significant post-expansion when the board is correctly positioned and supported.
Do I need a special gun to apply it?
Yes, it is designed for use with a professional PU foam gun, which provides controlled application, reduced waste and allows the same can to be reused between tasks.
Is this adhesive fire rated?
The product is a fire-retardant adhesive foam conforming to B3 fire rating requirements, offering an added level of safety compared with non-rated foam adhesives when used as directed.
Can the can remain on the gun between uses?
The can may be left attached for immediate reuse, provided the valve is closed and the gun and nozzle are cleaned regularly with foam gun cleaner. For longer periods, flushing the gun is recommended.
