The Faithfull FAIHG honing guide is used in conjunction with a sharpening stone.

Can be used with oil, water or diamond.

Obtains the perfect relief and cutting angle on both bevel edged wood chisels and plane irons.

How To use the honing guide:

The blade simply clamps into position either on the inner jaws or the outer

Inner jaws Clamping for chisels

Leaving a blade projection of 30mm will give a 30 degree angle and 40mm will result in a 25 degree angle.

Outer jaws for Plane Blades

Leaving a blade projection of 38mm for a 30 degree angle or 50mm for a 25 degree angle.

Apply oil or water depending on choice to the surface of the stone.

Rub the blade edge of the item to be sharpened back and forth along the stone at the angle set in the guide.

After sharpening the blade may have a burr along its back edge this can be removed by turning the blade over and rubbing it sideways over the surface of the stone.

To avoid excessive wear to the stone or diamond surface begin sharpening on the medium side this will remove material quickly and continue on the fine side for final honing of the cutting edge.
