Overview:

The Defender RCD Safety Electric Circuit Breaker 13A Wire-On Plug Adapter E11070C is designed as a permanent safety upgrade for power tools, extension leads and outdoor equipment. Wired directly onto the cable in place of a standard plug, it continuously monitors the supply and cuts power in approximately 40 milliseconds if a fault or imbalance is detected, helping to reduce the risk of serious electric shock.

Ideal for high-risk environments such as workshops, garages, gardens and site use, this robust RCD plug offers simple, effective extra protection whenever you plug in.

Key Features

  • 13A wire-on RCD plug for permanent installation to tools or extension leads

  • Continuously monitors live/neutral and trips in around 40ms on fault detection

How to Use

  • Have the plug wired by a competent person in accordance with current electrical regulations.

  • Connect the live, neutral and earth conductors to the clearly marked terminals.

  • After wiring, plug into a suitable 13A socket and press RESET to make the unit live.

  • Press the TEST button to confirm it trips correctly, then press RESET again before use.

  • If the RCD trips in use, investigate and correct the fault before resetting and re-using.

Important: Not suitable as the sole protection for pond pumps or other pond equipment. While the equipment is submerged it may be protected; once removed from the water, the installation is no longer adequately protected and a properly RCD-protected supply should be used.

Defender Wire-On RCD Plug – Key FAQs

  • Does this RCD plug just plug in, or does it need wiring?
This is a wire-on RCD plug and must be wired to the cable of a tool or extension lead by a competent person. It is not a simple plug-through adapter.

  • How does this help protect me from electric shock?
It monitors the current balance between live and neutral and cuts power in around 40ms if an imbalance is detected, helping to reduce the risk of serious shock in fault conditions.

  • Can I use it outdoors?
Yes, it is ideal for outdoor-rated tools and leads, but the plug and socket must be kept dry and used with suitable weather-protected equipment.

  • Is it suitable for pond pumps?
It should not be relied on as the only protection for pond equipment. Pond installations should be protected by a fixed RCD at the consumer unit or suitable outdoor RCD spur.

  • How often should I test the RCD?
Press the TEST button before first use and then at regular intervals (for example monthly). It should trip immediately; press RESET to restore power once you’ve confirmed correct operation.

"Appliances can become dangerous if the wiring becomes loose, or their power cords become damaged or if they get wet. Not only power tools and lawnmowers can cause electrocution is also possible if fingers, wet hair or other conductive bodies enter the appliance. In all these cases the Defender safety RCD is a must have life saving device for only a few pounds."
