How to use Geocel Airblock Foam:

Shake the Airblock Low Expansion Flexible Foam can vigorously for at least 30 seconds. screw the threaded end of the gun onto the tin. care must be taken not to over tighten the dispensing assembly. mount the dispensing plastic nozzle on the gun tip. During processing, the can must be held inverted with the valve at the bottom, to extrude the foam, pressure has to be carefully applied to the gun trigger, the gun trigger can be adjusted by turning the round knob at the rear of the gun dispenser, the fresh foam will expand after application; therefore care must be taken not to overfill joints, do a dry run on a small area to gage how much the Air Block foam will expand.

Questions and Answers:

Geocel AirBlock FAQs?

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the B2 fire rating, and how does it protect against fire spread?
The B2 fire rating is a European classification that signifies flame-retardant properties, meaning the material will resist ignition and slow the spread of fire but is not entirely non-combustible. Geocel Air-block is formulated to form a protective barrier within gaps, cavities, and joints, helping to contain fire in a confined area. By sealing these spaces, the foam reduces the risk of fire and smoke spreading quickly to other parts of the structure. This compartmentalisation is crucial in fire safety design, providing valuable time for building occupants to evacuate safely and for emergency responders to control the fire. The foam plays a vital role in maintaining the fire integrity of walls and partitions, particularly in service penetrations around cables, pipes, and ducts. To further enhance fire protection, it is often used alongside fire-rated sealants and coatings.

2. How does Geocel Airblock foam improve a building’s energy efficiency?
Buildings lose a significant amount of energy through uncontrolled air leaks around structural joints, windows, doors, and other openings. This uncontrolled airflow, known as air infiltration, can force heating and cooling systems to work harder to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures. Geocel Airblock addresses this issue by expanding to seal gaps and voids, creating an airtight barrier that reduces drafts and energy loss. By preventing cold air from entering in the winter and warm air from escaping in the summer, the foam enhances the building’s thermal performance. Over time, this improved insulation can lead to significant savings on energy bills, as well as a more comfortable indoor environment. Additionally, airtight buildings reduce the load on HVAC systems, which can extend the lifespan of heating and cooling equipment.

This makes Geocel Air-block B2 rated particularly valuable in energy-efficiency upgrades and retrofitting projects, where older buildings often lack adequate insulation or airtight seals.

3. How does Geocel Airblock B2 contribute to improving soundproofing in buildings?
In modern construction, soundproofing is an important consideration for both residential and commercial spaces. Noise can travel through small gaps and voids in walls, ceilings, and floors, causing disruptions and reducing privacy. Geocel Air Block helps address this by sealing these gaps and creating a continuous, airtight barrier that blocks sound transmission.

When applied properly, the foam reduces both airborne noise (e.g., conversations, music, and machinery) and structure-borne noise (e.g., vibrations from footsteps or mechanical equipment). This makes it particularly effective in partition walls between offices, apartments, hotel rooms, and classrooms where sound control is critical for comfort and productivity.

In addition to reducing noise transfer, the foam enhances the overall acoustic performance of soundproofing systems when used in combination with other materials like acoustic panels and insulation boards. This makes it an essential component in comprehensive acoustic design strategies for both new builds and renovations.

4. What steps should I follow to ensure proper preparation and application of the foam?
To achieve optimal performance with Geocel Airblock B2, preparation and correct application are crucial. Start by thoroughly cleaning the area where the foam will be applied. Remove dust, grease, dirt, and any loose debris to ensure a stable surface for bonding. Moisture on the surface should be minimal, though slightly damp surfaces may help improve adhesion in some cases. Avoid applying foam to surfaces that are excessively wet or frozen.

Once the surface is ready, shake the can of foam for at least 30 seconds to ensure the contents are well-mixed. Attach the applicator (gun or straw) securely to the canister, following the manufacturer's instructions. During application, dispense the foam into the gap, filling it to about 50% of the gap's depth to allow room for expansion. Avoid overfilling, as excess foam may expand beyond the joint or cavity, leading to waste and the need for trimming.

After applying the foam, allow it to expand and cure for 1-2 hours. Once fully cured, you can trim any excess foam with a sharp knife. If the foam will be exposed to the elements or high-traffic areas, consider applying a sealant or paint to protect the surface. Proper application ensures a durable, high-performing seal that meets fire, air tightness, and acoustic requirements.
